Summer is just about here, and with summer comes so much fun, excitement and busyness! Just because your schedule is getting fuller, however, doesn’t meant that you need to stop with green living. With this in mind, in part one of our blog series, we’ll share a few ways that you can have a greener summer!
Have A Yard Sale
In our previous blog post, we talked a bit about things that you can do to be more green in your spring cleaning efforts. In relation to unwanted goods, we talked about how it's better to donate them than simply throwing them away. While you’re not only supporting a charitable cause, you’re also eliminating waste by putting your unwanted goods into the hands of someone who could be putting them to good use. While donating items to local thrift stores is indeed a fantastic way to live green, another fun and easy way to be green this summer comes in the form of one of the most quintessentially summer things ever-the yard sale.
Nothing says summer quite like a yard sale. Instead of throwing away your unwanted items, it’s entirely possible that, much like at a thrift store, someone could very easily want something that has lost its purpose to you. There are plenty of people who drive around looking for yard sales, and if you put up enough signs and advertise in advance, you’ll likely see a healthy amount of people who you’ve never met before. This is a great way to clear out your home of unwanted items by making a little bit of money and cutting down on waste. Plus, if you’ve got little ones, you can have them set up a lemonade stand to get them involved and help them understand the value of hard work.
You don’t have to stop with just your home, either. You can very easily organize a neighborhood-wide yard sale. This is a great way to not only get involved with your neighborhood, it’s also a great way to help your neighbors incorporate green living into their lifestyles. Who knows, you may end up starting an annual tradition in your neighborhood!
Grow Your Own Fruits and Veggies
We’re not shy about our love of vegetables at here Green Tidings. From supporting plant-based lifestyles to simply informing you about the many benefits of eating green vegetables, we love to remind our customers of the value that comes from eating food that comes from the Earth. It’s important to eat well, but beyond that, there’s no better way to eat than by eating food that you grew yourself. While some things are easier to grow and maintain than others, growing your own vegetables can be an incredibly rewarding and delicious experience. Fresh vegetables in the summer is truly a treat, and by growing your own cucumbers, peppers, and berries, you can actually taste the fruits (or veggies) of your labor. There’s nothing quite like sitting down for a delicious meal, only to realize that a large portion of the meal that you’re enjoying was grown right in your own backyard. By growing your own fruits and vegetables, you’re eating fresher in that you’ll be growing them without the use of pesticides or other enhancements. The rewards are so great that you may develop that green thumb even further next season!
